Functional Materials and Interfaces: From Molecular Design to Bio-Nano Applications
Functional materials derive their properties from the coordinated design of molecular components, nanoscale structures, and interfaces. This focused workshop will bring together complementary perspectives from molecular recognition chemistry, nanoscale and biobased materials, polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, and electronic devices. The presentations will explore how molecular interactions, material composition, interfacial organization, and mass transport can be controlled to generate useful functions. Potential applications include selective recognition and separation, responsive membranes, optical and electronic analysis, chemical and biological sensing, and other emerging bio-nano technologies. By considering these applications within a common materials-design framework, the workshop aims to identify shared principles connecting molecular and nanoscale structure with functional performance, reliability, and sustainability.
